Lavenham’s claim to be England’s finest medieval town is upheld by its unrivalled collection of perfectly preserved halftimbered houses – built during the prosperous Middle Ages wool trade. The church of St Peter and St Paul has the tallest tower in Suffolk. Nearby Kersey will be recognised from countless calendars and paintings – ducks at the ford helpfully posing for photographs.

A late 14th Century Hall House on the main square, first built in 1390’s as a family house and workplace. It is now a museum where you can discover its quirky history and art.
The Guildhall owned by the National Trust is one of the finest timberframed buildings in England. The building dates from around 1530 and was built on the back of the boom of the cloth industry in the early 16th Century.

In the nearby village of Preston St Mary is this fantastic little pub, complete with large outdoor garden for those sunny days. Open for lunch and dinner, it specialises in British seasonal produce from local farms, niche producers and the day-boat fish from nearby Leigh-on-Sea. Great for a traditional Sunday roast too.
